Farmington NM Portrait Photographer | Mars and Kid Portraits

This is my kind of portrait photography. Crisp, clean, and poppin. Reflectors and Photoshop are a beautiful thing! Actually I can't wait to get my hands on the newest version of Aperture. Aperture 3 - Apple's featured photo editing software has some amazing new features that will really allow me to efficiently tweek photos to perfection. They've also made it so that we can create multi media projects with HD video. Can't wait! It's a fantastic program...we love it and highly recommend it.

So these photos were the first batch shot with the help of a 42' reflector we scored from B&H Photography. My wife was so kind to accept the challenge of being in charge of the reflector and I felt like she did an outstanding job. We have a lot to learn about lighting, but for our first run...we got some amazing results. The extra light really enhanced the overall skin tones and made the eyes really pop! Looking forward to more experimentation in the future.

Farmington NM Portrait Birthday Party Photographer | Nora G's Birthday Bash!

What do you remember about your 1st birthday?

You know, as a husband having a child for the first time, I had no idea that the 1yr old birthday was such a significant event. Trust me 1st child fathers....it's very significant. Just go along with everything your wife says and everything will turn out fine. As portrait photographers we're constantly on the hunt for those amazingly adorable photos that seems to magically appear out of no where. Events like a birthday can be very planned as far as the decor, cake, apparel, etc. (which by the way, does make a huge difference in composition with photos...thank you Katie) but the one thing that can't be planned is the temperament and the overall attitude of the child/children involved. This is where prayer comes in. Lots of prayer. And maybe even a little fasting....especially if you're paying for a photographer. :)

I would have to say that a shoot like this is 50% experience / 50% total luck/blessings (which ever way you want to look at it). I prefer to think it was an answer to prayer....(since I was praying like crazy that I would be able to get the shots that would be most meaningful to us and our daughter). At the end of the day, the result should be a photo shoot that tells a story. It's a photo journalistic approach to an event...in this case a birthday. And it was a blast to do. I guess technically this was the first time I approached a "birthday shoot" from this perspective, and we thought it turned pretty dang cool.

Hopefully when Nora looks back on this experience, these photos will help to tell the story of what her amazing 1st Birthday was all about. So the answer is YES! We're ready to be hired to shoot more birthdays. Give us a shot! (no pun intended)

Farmington NM Studio Portrait Photographer | Valentines Day Sweetheart Session

I feel like the luckiest uncle in the world to have such beautiful nieces to help me practice my studio portrait photography. Of course as you can see they are beautiful on the outside, but it's actually their amazingly dynamic insides that produce such fantastic photographic results.

One of the things I'm learning from shoots like this is how to adjust the camera to get the best possible white balance, to minimize editing after the shoot. Just cause you shoot against a white background by no means - means that the background is going to turn out white in the camera. So yes....mucho tweeking took place with these photos...but it was a blast...and hopefully by next year, these valentines day shoots will catch on and everyone will want to do one! :) Thanks girls....you totally rocked this shoot.

Farmington NM Portrait Photographer | Casa Blanca Inn | Cillessen Family

As a photographer in Farmington, NM one the challenges is finding fresh and creative venues. This turned out to be a beautiful photography experience at the Casa Blanca Bed & Breakfast in Farmington, NM. Cassie Cillessen and her two super cool boys were extremely photogenic and made it easy to get some amazing shots. It was Cassie's idea to photograph there and we loved it. The natural light was killer, and the decor at Casa Blanca is unique and classy. Really looking forward to shooting more at this venue...especially in spring when their outdoor court yard is in full bloom. Thank you Cassie for allowing us to shoot part of your beautiful family, we're looking forward to shooting the rest of the Cilessen's.
